SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS FOR THE INDUSTRY

In a world that is constantly changing, we are permanently confronted with new challenges. Sustainability is a good example of such a change. Today, sustainability is no longer a trend, but rather a necessity. Companies, large or small, are faced with increasing customer demands and legal requirements. These requirements affect every aspect of the company, from products to work processes.

Increasingly, they also apply to workshops. Here, too, adapting to change is decisive for long-term success. On this website, you will learn more about how we at Würth include sustainability in our field of products and get an overview of our range of sustainable products that help you make your workshop ready for the future.

Nachhaltige Produkte, was bedeutet das?

Sustainable products: What does that actually mean?

Sustainability is a field that is evolving permanently. We are affected by this change, too, and bear the responsibility to develop further accordingly. At Würth, we consider our journey to sustainability a permanent learning process in which openness to change and innovation is of central importance.

A critical challenge in the discussion about sustainable products is that there is no uniform understanding of what “sustainable” means. For there is no standardized definition of what exactly makes up a sustainable product. In order to tackle this challenge and create transparency and a uniform understanding, we established a system at Würth to assess how sustainable our products are. This sustainability assessment serves as a basis for evaluating, developing and transparently communicating our products.

Nachhaltigkeitskriterien

Sustainability assessment based on 6 categories

The sustainability assessment of our products consists of the following six categories:

• Climate

• Environment

• Resources

• Emissions/Pollutants

• Label-free

• Reduced hazardous substances

Due to the wide variety of products within the Würth Group, we rely not only on product-specific documents but also on external certifications to meet these categories.

As part of a holistic approach to sustainability, we consider not only product properties but also social standards along the supply chain. The product assessment is continuously developed to comply with evolving legal requirements and market demands. Current threshold values are regularly reviewed and adjusted.

More than ten years ago, the Würth Group introduced ECOLINE products to offer a standardized ecological product line. This label has now been revised and is based on an enhanced product assessment. Products that meet at least two of the four key categories receive the ECOLINE logo. As the sustainability evaluation evolves, the ECOLINE portfolio may also change to ensure transparency and credibility.

Clarity in the jungle of sustainability labels:

Product label

EU Ecolabel

The EU Ecolabel labels environmentally friendly products and services that minimise their environmental impact throughout their life cycle. It meets strict environmental criteria, including energy efficiency, a low level of polluting emissions and sustainable material use. In the Würth Group, it belongs to the "Environment" and "Resources" categories

Blue Angel label

The Blue Angel label distinguishes environmentally friendly products and services that meet stringent environmental standards. These include less energy consumption, harmful substances or environmental impacts. In the Würth Group, it falls under the categories "Environment", "Resources" or "Emissions/Pollutants".

Global Recycled Standard

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certifies the use and share of recycled materials in products such as textiles. It ensures that the recycled materials were sourced and processed responsibly. The GRS promotes the use of recycled materials and responsible production practices to support a circular economy. Products with the GRS label belong to the "Resources" category in the Würth Group.

NSF certification

The NSF certification for non-food compounds marks products that can be used in food-processing environments but are not used for direct food processing. Products must meet specific hygiene, safety and environmental standards in order to obtain this certification. In the Würth Group, they are assigned to the "Emissions/pollutants" category.

EMICODE certification

The EMICODE certification labels construction products with respect to their emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other harmful substances. This provides a reference of what products cause low levels of indoor air pollution and ensure maximum health protection and high environmental compatibility. At the Würth Group, these products are assigned to the "Emissions/pollutants" category.

OEKO-TEX® MADE IN GREEN Label

The OEKO-TEX® MADE IN GREEN label stands for environmentally friendly production, the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and social responsibility. Furthermore, the label guarantees standards in the field of social responsibility and traceability of supply chains. At the Würth Group, the products fall under the categories "Environment" and "Emissions/Pollutants".

Packaging label

bluemint® Steel

bluemint® Steel is steel from ThyssenKrupp containing a reduced amount of CO2. A new process in steel production reduces CO2 emissions by some 70 percent. This steel is used for more than 3 million of our cans for chemical products, which are marked with a bluemint® Steel logo.

Other product features

ISEGA

ISEGA is the German certification system for products for the food-processing sector. Regular monitoring by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) ensures that the products comply not only with German but also international regulations.

TÜV Rheinland tested

TÜV Rheinland has tested the product for safety and compatibility when used as intended. The keyword “Sicherheit” (safety) confirms that the product meets the specified safety criteria. “Regelmäßige Produktionsüberwachung” (regular production monitoring) ensures that quality is maintained through regular production checks.

Free from NTA

Free from NTA (nitrilotriacetic acid). Label used for cleaning and washing agents. NTA is suspected to be toxic and to have a negative environmental impact.

Free of n-hexane

Free of n-hexane. N-hexane is used in various industrial applications, as solvent among other things. Hexane is addictive, harmful to health and hazardous to water.

Bornitrid

The boron nitride allows a wide temperature range and long-lasting lubricating effect. If the oil lubrication breaks off at higher temperatures (above 180°C), the boron nitride takes over the lubrication up to 1000°C (dry lubrication).
